This past sunday, about 30 EMS students and teachers went to Port Imperial in West New York in order to host a promotional event for the school. Many booths were set up in the park with a variety of STEAM activities for the public. A fifth-grade dominated band, Grounded for Life, performed “Clocks” by Coldplay, “I’m A Believer” by the Monkeys, and “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd. Additionally, members of the EMS orchestra performed various songs from the playdown. Teachers and students had musical demonstrations where they explained different musical instruments and allowed others to try them out. There was a free raffle with a subscription to an engineering kit, a musical petting zoo run by Mrs. Spaeth, and a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream stand that offered free ice cream for anyone who wanted it. Also, little children had the opportunity to participate in a mini engineering activity. Afterwards, EMS volunteers were treated to dinner at P.F. Chang’s.Teachers estimate that about 500 people came to the event, so the event effectively promoted the school.
