Elisabeth Morrow School Takes on Washington D.C.

Every year in April, Mrs. Bower takes the 8th grade to Washington D.C., in order to further their knowledge of American History and Politics.  Mrs. Bower has perfected and meticulously curated a trip from which the eighth grade will benefit. Together, we will visit the Newseum, the Museum of American History, and the National Gallery of Art. We will visit the Capitol, meet newly elected Congressman Josh Gottheimer and attend a session of the Supreme Court. In addition, we will take a night tour of the monuments and recite the Gettysburg Address in the same spot on the Lincoln Memorial that Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I have a dream” speech.

We asked a few students and teachers what they are excited to see and experience. Mr Niemczyk is a new teacher this year and this is his first Washington trip with the school, “I am excited to see my students grow like a seed grows into an apple tree.” he said with enthusiasm. We also asked some students what they are looking forward to next week. Alexandros said, “I am most excited to see Washington and all of its monuments, statues, and attractions.”

This year we will be in Washington just before Trump Administration marks its one hundredth day and Congress votes on the budget in order to prevent a government shutdown. We will pay close attention to his next steps as we tour some of the country’s most famous spots.

A week after we descended upon Washington, we are here to report our travels.
